During a certain period in tennis, the ‘Big 3’ were the dominant players. However, all athletes must eventually retire from the game. This was the case for them as well. Roger Federer has officially retired, and Rafael Nadal is also contemplating retirement. On the other hand, Novak Djokovic still has some time left in his career. With their departure, a new generation of talented players has emerged, eager to make their mark on the sport. Sharing his perspective on this transition, Djokovic, a 24-time grand slam champion, discussed the current state of tennis and its future.

Yet, as he spoke about the future and his ongoing competition with Carlos Alcaraz, Djokovic’s tone turned wistful. He fondly recalled the intense matches he had against the greats of the sport.

Novak Djokovic hints at his rivalry in the sport as he discusses the future of tennis.

Recently, Novak Djokovic expressed his belief that the emergence of Carlos Alcaraz is a positive development for the sport. Despite this, Djokovic’s loyalty still lies with his longtime rivals, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Djokovic’s comments highlight the era when the Big 3 were dominant in tennis and the younger players have now taken on the responsibility of carrying on their legacy.

Djokovic acknowledged Alcaraz’s exceptional skill. He went on to praise their matches at Wimbledon, Roland Garros, and Cincinnati as some of the most memorable and competitive ones he has experienced. He acknowledges that these duels have brought out the best in both himself and the Spaniard.

Despite the increasing competition with Carlos Alcaraz, the athlete still longs for the past rivalries with former favorites and legendary players. During an interview, he also acknowledged Andy Murray as one of his most memorable rivals.

Novak stated in an interview that the future of tennis looks promising, especially with Carlos Alcaraz leading the way. He mentioned the exciting matches at Wimbledon, Roland Garros, and Cincinnati, with the latter being the most intense 3-set match. He believes it is beneficial for the sport to have rivalries, just like those between Federer and Nadal, as well as with Andy Murray. Although he has only played against Carlos a few times, he hopes to face him as often as he has faced other opponents. Novak plans to continue playing for many years, but acknowledges that it may not be possible, so he will see how things unfold.

Although the Big 3 have faced each other several times, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz have only competed against each other four times. According to Novak, these matches are insignificant compared to his battles with his main competitors.

Although, he aspires to encounter the Wimbledon champion again in the future and establish a new rivalry in the sport to maintain the essence of the game. In the present world of tennis, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz have taken the spotlight as they compete for the top spot in the sport.
