  • Users of the Pixel 8 series can now use Face Unlock to confirm app logins and authorize payments.

Google has enhanced the Face Unlock feature on the Pixel 8 models. The company has announced that the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro now comply with the top tier of Android biometric security. In more straightforward language, this means that the new Pixel phones can be used to log into apps or make payments.

The Pixel 7 series included Face Unlock, however, users were unable to use it for app logins or payments. This caused problems for those who experienced declined transactions when using Face Unlock to authenticate. This is due to the fact that the face unlock feature on the Pixel 7 series is classified as a Class 1 (convenient) biometric authentication method, which is considered the weakest option.
