The iPhone is experiencing a decline in popularity in key markets, while the Pixel is gaining momentum.

  • In Q2 2023, the sales of Pixel phones experienced a sixfold increase, boosting its market share in Japan to 12%.

  • In the same time frame, the iPhone’s market share in Japan decreased by 12%.

  • The popularity of the Pixel 6a and 7a has significantly increased in the country as a result of their affordable prices.


Google is set to release the Pixel 8 series in the near future. On October 4th, the tech company will have even more reason to celebrate as it has already seen a significant increase in sales for its Pixel phones in a major market. This success is also resulting in the company gaining market share from its top competitor.

Japan, the third largest global economy, seems to be showing more interest in the Pixel. According to data from Counterpoint Research published by Bloomberg, sales of Pixel phones have increased six times in the second quarter of 2023 compared to the previous year.
