The iPhone 15 Pro Max is the ultimate smartphone. *yawn*

The latest iPhones from Apple will be available for purchase this week and early reviews are coming in. The initial feedback is overwhelmingly positive and with the high demand shown through preorder wait times, it seems they are selling quickly.
The standout of the event is undoubtedly the iPhone 15 Pro Max. It comes with numerous enhancements compared to its predecessor, such as a titanium exterior, A17 Pro chip, 5X optical zoom with a 120mm lens, a customizable Action button, and fast USB 3 speeds. Each of these upgrades is impressive on its own, but together they make for the greatest iPhone yet and one of the top smartphones on the market.
There are many advancements being made. The A17 Pro is the first 3nm processor in the industry and has a 6-core GPU that supports ray-tracing. The telephoto lens uses a special design that reflects light four times and has advanced image stabilization and autofocus capabilities. The USB-C port also has the ability to charge other devices that support USB-C power delivery.
Despite being considered the greatest smartphone on the market, the new iPhone 15 Pro Max may still lack excitement. At first glance, it may appear identical to its predecessor, the iPhone 14 Pro Max. However, upon closer inspection, you may notice subtle differences such as titanium accents, slimmer bezels, and contoured edges. The use of titanium has also limited the color options available. To truly test its capabilities, one would need to play a graphics-heavy game that can fully utilize the A17 Pro processor.
For some time now, it has been apparent that the Wonderlust event did not bring anything groundbreaking to the iPhone’s current state. This trend is likely to continue with the launch of the iPhone 16, unless significant changes are made beforehand.

Apple’s approach to releasing iPhones has consistently involved delaying upgrades. For example, the iPhone 6 Plus was the first to have a screen size larger than 5 inches, catching up to the trend of large-screen Android phones. The iPhone 7 Plus was the first to have a dual rear camera, and the iPhone X was the first to eliminate the home button and adopt an “all-screen” design, despite Android phones having already done so years prior.
The iPhone 15 is similar to its predecessors. Some may criticize its 60Hz display and lack of a telephoto camera compared to similarly-priced Android phones, but it aligns with Apple’s usual strategy: not groundbreaking, but still a significant improvement from the iPhone 14, a major advancement from the iPhone 13, and a significant leap from the iPhone 12.
Unfortunately, those anticipating a significant increase in iPhone sales compared to the previous year will be let down. In the 16 years since its release, there have only been three major changes: the iPhone 4, iPhone 6, and iPhone X. Other updates have primarily consisted of small improvements such as larger screens, improved cameras, faster processors, and minor design changes.

It’s all boring, yes, but it’s also exactly as exciting as it needs to be. Apple understands the whole world is watching whenever it unveils anything, let alone an iPhone, so it still gives people something to want in the latest model: USB-C and 5X zoom with the iPhone 15 Pro Max; always-on display and the Dynamic Island with the iPhone 14 Pro; ProMotion and a leap for the camera for the iPhone 13 Pro; a new design with the iPhone 12. And on and on.
Apple doesn’t do big and splashy with the iPhone, so no one should have expected something like Samsung’s 100X Space Zoom. Apple’s annual updates are about making the iPhone better in a practical sense, not offering gimmicky features they’re going to try once and never use again.
If you’re anticipating a big change next year, such as a foldable screen, you may be disappointed. Despite speculations of a larger screen and in-display Face ID, the iPhone 16 will likely be unexciting. Apple is skilled at this competition and the current shipping estimates for the iPhone 15 Pro Max show their success.
