If you have installed iOS 17, you will need to be patient before being able to access these features.
Macworld
iOS 17 has been released with several enhancements and additions, such as Contact posters, live voicemail transcription, StandBy, FaceTime messages, improved autocorrect and dictation, and Siri upgrades. However, certain features that users may be anticipating will not be available until a later date. Although these features are included in iOS 17, they will not be fully implemented until later this year.
Every year, Apple releases updates for iOS and this is nothing to worry about. It simply means that certain features will be added in later versions of iOS 17, such as 17.1, 17.2, or 17.3. Apple is informing us about all of these features now. Occasionally, a feature that was promised for the current year may be delayed and added in the following year. Here are some of the features for iOS 17 that Apple has announced will be included in a future update:
AirDrop over the Internet
One of the convenient updates in iOS 17 for AirDrop is the ability to start it by simply bringing your iPhone close to the recipient’s iPhone. This feature will be included in the upcoming iOS 17 release.
Another convenient update is that if someone is sending you multiple large videos and many photos, you no longer have to wait for the transfer to finish. You can initiate an AirDrop and then go about your business while the transfer continues over the internet with no loss in quality. Both you and the sender must be signed in to iCloud for this to work.
The internet transfer, which is the second part, will not be accessible until after the initial release of iOS 17.
Journal app
At the WWDC, Apple revealed its latest application called Journal, which appears to be quite impressive. This app allows you to jot down notes about your day, add images, music, or locations, and all recommendations are processed on your device. Plus, the iCloud synchronization is secured with end-to-end encryption. Additionally, you have the option to lock your journal for added privacy.
We will need to wait until “later this year” before we can begin our journaling – or should I say journey.

Collaborative Apple Music playlists
For years, music enthusiasts have been requesting the ability to create or collaborate on playlists in Apple Music. This is a feature that often leads people to stick with Spotify.
The release of iOS 17 is almost here, although it may come in the form of iOS 17.1, 17.2, or even 17.3. With this update, you will now have the ability to share Apple Music playlists with friends. They can add, remove, and rearrange songs, and you can all use emojis to react to song choices while listening in Now Playing.
In-room AirPlay streaming service available for hotel guests
Watching your personal media on a hotel television can be quite inconvenient. Fortunately, Apple plans to collaborate with hotel companies to incorporate AirPlay into their TVs, fulfilling our desire. By scanning a QR code on the TV, you can easily connect your phone and stream your desired content on the TV in your hotel room.
This feature will not be available until after the release of iOS 17, and it will likely be at least a year before the majority of travelers have access to it. Only a limited number of hotels are planning to implement it later this year, with others to follow suit.
Notify Apple Watch when a specific name is mentioned.
Mention a specific name to receive a notification on your Apple Watch.
Along with the latest AirDrop enhancements, Apple introduces NameDrop, their own version of a feature that has long been available on Android. Simply bring your iPhone in close proximity to another device to transfer your contact details (with the ability to choose which ones are shared). This functionality can even be utilized on an Apple Watch. Impressive!
The Apple Watch section will be released later this year through a software update. However, it will only be compatible with Apple Watch Series 6 or newer, Apple Watch SE, or Apple Watch Ultra.

Messages improvements
There will be some enhancements to Messages in the first release of iOS 17, while the remaining updates will be released later this year.
In a future update for iOS 17, expected to be released in 2023, two new additions will be the Stickers experience and a “Catch-up arrow” that allows users to easily navigate to the first unread message in a thread.
Later this year, there will be enhancements to the synchronization of Messages in iCloud. This will include syncing not just your Messages, but also settings like Text Message Forwarding, Send & Receive accounts, and SMS filters across all your devices.
News widget
In a future update, a widget will be included that allows you to play or pause audio stories or podcasts on News+.
Apple Music Favorites
A forthcoming update will introduce a fresh playlist named “Favorite Songs” which will contain all the tracks you have marked as favorites on Apple Music. Additionally, you will have the ability to mark songs, albums, playlists, and artists as favorites, and they will be automatically included in your library and utilized to enhance suggestions.
PDF forms
One exciting feature we are looking forward to is the system’s AI capability to read and automatically fill in fillable fields in PDF forms. This function will be available in Files, Mail, and scanned documents, but it will require an iOS 17 update later this year.
Fitness+ Audio Focus
During a Fitness+ workout, you will have the option to prioritize either the trainer’s instructions or the background music.
Press to Activate Matter Locks
Soon, you will be able to use your iPhone to unlock locks that are compatible with both HomeKit and HomeKey, as well as those that support Matter.
Simpler sign-in process for Apple ID during device setup
When setting up a new Apple device, you can now sign into your Apple ID by using a trusted iPhone or iPad nearby and scanning the point cloud. This process is similar to the current one, but it only transfers apps and settings, not your Apple ID sign-in.
