How to restart a malfunctioning Siri Remote
Macworld
The operating system of the Siri Remote for Apple TV is similar to that of many small devices. Occasionally, it may be necessary to restart the remote control, which is something I had not previously thought about. This may occur specifically when using a Siri Remote (any generation) as an infrared transmitter after programming it to imitate remote control functions, such as turning on/off and adjusting volume.
While setting up my new Apple TV, I encountered a few crashes with the remote while trying to program the infrared. All of the features were functional except for those involving infrared. However, performing a forced reboot resolved the issue.
To reset a Siri Remote, follow these steps when it occurs:
-
Press and hold the TV/Control Center button and the volume down (-) button simultaneously.
-
Please proceed to count to five and observe the front light of your Apple TV, as it will turn off and then back on. Please note that there is no visual indication on a Siri Remote.
-
Release the buttons. After approximately 5 to 10 seconds, a message will appear stating that the connection with the Siri Remote has been lost, indicating that the Apple TV is unable to communicate with it.
-
After a brief period, the Siri Remote finishes restarting and displays a Connected notification.
Your Siri Remote should now work as intended.
