Google reveals why Video Boost is exclusive to the Pixel 8 Pro right now

  • According to Google, the expense of cloud infrastructure is a contributing factor to why Video Boost is only available on the Pixel 8 Pro.

  • The company has suggested that the feature may eventually be available on the regular Pixel 8.

The Pixel 8 Pro offers a variety of impressive AI capabilities, including Video Boost. This feature utilizes Google’s advanced cloud processing system to enhance the color, lighting, stabilization, and graininess of each frame in a 4K video captured by the device. It also enables Night Sight Videos, improving the quality of low-light video footage. According to Google, this should result in more realistic and vibrant videos.

During an interview with Android Authority, Google stated that the Tensor G3 chip on the Pixel 8 Pro is responsible for some of the initial processing for Video Boost. The remaining processing tasks are then carried out in the cloud. However, despite this being the main factor in how Video Boost operates, the Pixel 8 does not currently have this feature. This is because Video Boost is currently only available on the Pixel 8 Pro, which has been deemed the more suitable device for this feature.
