Google is currently experimenting with a floating search bar on Android 14 QPR1.

  • Google is in the process of developing a floating search bar specifically for the Pixel Launcher.

  • The Android 12 update for the Pixel Launcher includes a search bar that can search all of your apps, contacts, and other items.

  • The updated search bar will have the same functionality, but it will be more conveniently located.

The popularity of the Pixel series is largely due to Google’s software. While the Pixel user interface may not have as many advanced features as Samsung’s One UI, it offers numerous practical and convenient features that are not available on other top Android phones. One standout feature exclusive to the Pixel is the universal search bar on the Pixel Launcher, which efficiently searches through your apps, contacts, settings, and the internet.

Google has the most superior version of universal search, although other manufacturers have also created their own versions. This feature was initially launched in a beta for Android 12 and is based on the AppSearch framework that was introduced in that update. While the universal search bar in the Pixel Launcher has not received many updates since its initial release, the upcoming December 2023 Pixel Feature Drop may bring significant changes to how users interact with it.
