Can the new M3 Macs rescue us from Apple’s uneventful October?
Macworld
September was, as usual, a huge month for Apple. The iPhone 15 lineup, Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2, and releases of iOS 17, iPadOS 17, watchOS 10, and even macOS Sonoma.
Typically, October is relatively subdued, but it typically brings the release of a new version of macOS and possibly even some new Mac models. However, this year the macOS release occurred earlier in September and the arrival of new Macs is uncertain.
We can anticipate receiving OS updates, new Apple TV+ shows, and Apple Arcade games in the near future. However, it is possible that all major releases for the year have already been released and we should not anticipate any more significant releases from Apple until spring of 2024. Here is what we can expect from Apple in October 2023.
New hardware releases
Is Apple planning to launch M3 Macs? There were speculations that Apple would introduce their first M3-based Macs in October. This could include a refreshed iMac and MacBook Air with M3 processors, but no significant changes were anticipated other than the upgrade in processors. However, new rumors suggest otherwise, as analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that there will be no iPads or Macs with M3 chips released this year.
According to the latest speculations, the 7th generation of the iPad mini is still set to be released this autumn. As there are not many other products to be announced and with no significant new features expected other than a faster processor, it is probable that this release will be low-key and directly on the internet.

We have moved on to the point-release updates, which tend to be significant in the first few months as Apple completes the implementation of all the features announced at WWDC in June that were not included in the initial release. The x.1 updates for all operating systems were released to beta at the end of September and are expected to be publicly released in October. Beta testing for the x.2 updates may also begin in October.
The latest update for iOS/iPadOS 17.1 includes enhancements to Apple Music, the ability to continue AirDrop transfers via the internet, and various minor improvements. It is possible that more features will be included in the final release.
The latest version of macOS Sonoma 14.1 now includes a “favorite” feature in Apple Music and also addresses issues with Remote Widgets.
