The International Olympic Committee has prohibited Russia from participating in the Olympics, but athletes from Russia may still have the opportunity to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The International Olympic Committee has officially prohibited the Russian Olympic Committee, effective immediately. However, their stance on Russian athletes participating in the Paris 2024 Olympics remains unchanged.

According to a statement from the IOC, Russia’s actions of claiming regional sports organizations in occupied areas (Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk, and Zaporizhzhia) as members, which should fall under the authority of Ukraine’s National Olympic Committee, goes against the rules of the Olympic Charter.

Due to the violation, the ROC has been temporarily suspended “until further notice, effective immediately.”

Due to the suspension, the Russian committee is unable to function as a National Olympic Committee and will not receive any financial support from the Olympic Movement.

The declaration confirms that the International Olympic Committee maintains its stance on the participation of Russian athletes in the 2024 Paris Games. Following the committee’s previous recommendations, athletes from Russia and Belarus will be permitted to compete in the Games, but only as “neutral” athletes without displaying their national flag or anthem.

The suspension of the IOC by the Russian Olympic Committee was deemed a counterproductive ruling driven by political motives.
