Simone Biles, one of the most legendary gymnasts, faced an unlikely obstacle at the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships that caused some humorous disruption to her status.

Simone Biles, whose impressive career has spanned ten years, recently returned to the city where she first achieved victory at the World Championships in 2013. During her previous visit to Antwerp, known as the diamond capital of the world, Biles earned four medals, including two golds. At 26 years old, she is currently tied with Vitaly Scherbo for the most titles won at both the Worlds and the Olympics, with a total of 33. While some gymnasts took time away from the sport, Biles stayed connected to her millions of fans through online platforms, mainly due to a needed mental health break.

Devoted followers of Simone Biles can always rely on her to provide entertainment while sharing candid discussions on social media. The athlete frequently shares updates about her activities with her followers, and this recent occasion was no exception.

Even the most skilled athletes will not be given preferential treatment based on their fame. Biles has a reputation for speaking her mind, as seen in her Q&A sessions. In this case, Biles used her TikTok “get ready with me” video to share her thoughts in a direct and honest manner. Just before winning her 20th World medal, she expressed, “It’s incredibly difficult to train on uneven surfaces for two weeks during world championships.”

Simone had already issued a fair warning in the caption that read, “a whole bunch of word vomit because nerves.” She described how to begin by bringing pit cushions and other equipment because the landings are difficult on the body of the gymnast. “We should have softer landing and stuff at the back, gyms.. the training halls,” she added.

I am filled with anticipation as I follow Simone Biles’ journey towards the Paris Olympics. Her remarkable comeback has left me in awe and I am eagerly anticipating her next steps.

Biles expressed feeling anxious towards the end of the video, but the event ended up playing out in a dramatic manner. Despite leading with a score of 125.831, only 1.768 points ahead of China, the third rotation put pressure on the American team. Biles’ double-layout full-twisting landings on the floor helped secure the win. Her top score of 15.166 for the day was crucial, solidifying her team’s seventh consecutive gold medal. Unfortunately, Biles’ concerns were overshadowed by her teammate’s injury.

Who sustained injuries during the team event at the World Championships?

Joscelyn Roberson was unsuccessful in her Cheng and was spotted bent over holding onto her ankles in discomfort while warming up. Head coach Laurant Landi brought her to the medical area, and she was later seen leaving on crutches. As a result, Leanne Wong, who was scheduled to compete on the balance beam, took Joscelyn’s spot in the competition. Wong then performed on the vault and floor exercises, filling in for the rest of the team event.

Team USA came out on top with a total of 167.729 points, securing the victory. Rebeca Andrade from Brazil, the 2022 World all-around champion, led her team in a closely fought competition. France took third place with 164.064 points, marking their first team medal at the World Championships since 1950. The next round of competition is set for Friday.
