Khabib Nurmagomedov’s decision to not support Islam Makhachev and Usman in their corner has given his cousin a significant advantage leading up to Bellator 300.

Who do you believe is the top UFC heavyweight of all time? Many would argue that it is Stipe Miocic. However, Daniel Cormier believes that former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez holds the title. Velasquez was a fellow teammate of DC at the AKA gym, where he also trained with Khabib Nurmagomedov and other talented fighters from Dagestan.

One of the most notable individuals is the current lightweight titleholder and the individual being promoted as the next ‘Eagle,’ Islam Makhachev. Alongside him are Khabib’s cousins – UFC bantamweight Umar Nurmagomedov, and Bellator lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov, who has stepped in to corner him in place of Khabib. While it may be challenging to fill the shoes of one of the all-time greats in Khabib, Usman has managed to do so with another legendary fighter.

Usman discovers a substitute for Khabib Nurmagomedov to be in his corner.

Usman is set to defend his Bellator lightweight championship for the second time at Bellator 300 in the upcoming month. Although Khabib will not be in his corner this time, Usman has secured Cain Velasquez to be his cornerman. Khabib has retired from MMA to prioritize his family and will not be present in Islam Makhachev’s corner either.

California State Athletic Commission executive director Andy Foster has confirmed to the news outlet MMA Fighting that the Commission has a court document allowing Velasquez to corner Usman. “He is scheduled to corner. We are in possession of a court order permitting him to do so,” Foster said in a text to the outlet.

Velasquez is currently involved in a legal case and is being accused of attempted murder. He allegedly pursued and fired at an individual who had been charged with sexually assaulting Velasquez’s four-year-old child at a daycare in California.

Usman Nurmagomedov will be defending his title against Brent Primus at Bellator 300.

Usman, like Khabib and cousin Umar, is undefeated in his seventeen-fight career so far. He will face lightweight contender Brent Primus in his second title defense at Bellator 300 at San Diego on October 8. Usman will be looking to keep his undefeated streak alive.

Usman, believed to be Khabib Nurmagomedov’s cousin, is reportedly set to make his UFC debut alongside Bellator’s 155lbs champion. It is also speculated that he may be joining Islam Makhachev’s division.

While Primus has experienced defeat in the past, he aims to become a two-time champion this week. In 2017, he claimed the Bellator lightweight championship by defeating a current UFC welterweight and potential opponent for Conor McGregor through a doctor’s decision. However, his task has become more challenging with the former UFC champion joining the opposing corner.
