Following the highly talked about exit of Damian Lillard’s alter ego “Dame D.O.L.L.A”, 19-year-old newcomer Scoot Henderson revives musical abilities in Portland through a tribute to Mary J. Blige.
The Portland Trail Blazers are experiencing changes. During the off-season, their star player, Damian Lillard, left the team. At the same time, their lottery pick, Scoot Henderson, joined the team. They view Scoot as the future leader for the Blazers. Interestingly, he shares not only basketball skills with Damian Lillard but also a talent for using his voice on a microphone.
Could the Blazers be the new OKC of the Western Conference? Based on current indications, it appears they may be heading in that direction.
The tunes of rebuild
In Portland, it is customary for new players to perform a song at the Fan Fest. While some may not like being in the spotlight, Scoot Henderson is an exception. In the video below, you can see him fully enjoying singing along to a Mary J. Blige song as a tribute.
The tradition of making rookies sing at Fan Fest lives on.
Scoot Henderson initially intended to use Mary J Blige’s “My Life” (his preferred song), but ultimately chose “Family Affair” instead. The link to the tweet is provided below:

Dame D.O.L.L.A is a talented vocalist. His final track was a heartfelt tribute to Portland, the city he called home for the last eleven years. As he transitioned to the Bucks, the Blazers acquired Jrue Holiday and DeAndre Ayton in a three-team trade. Jrue Holiday, a seasoned veteran, could have provided valuable guidance to Scoot Henderson and other young players on the team. However, Portland had no interest in keeping him and promptly traded him to the Celtics in exchange for Robert Williams III and Malcolm Brogdon. While both of these players are talented, they are not at the level of Jrue Holiday.
“After crushing the Lakers in his debut game alongside Stephen Curry and other longtime rival Chris Paul, there was a hilarious irony pointed out by Paul with the phrase ‘For a Change’.”
It would be intriguing to learn about Chauncey Billups’ thoughts. Did he willingly join this team? Or is there more to Portland’s roster than initially perceived?
The Team
Upon closer examination, the current composition of the Blazers team showcases a strong combination of skilled players. Anfernee Simons is known for his sharpshooting abilities, while veterans Malcolm Brogdon and Jerami Grant excel on both offense and defense. The team also boasts centers DeAndre Ayton and Robert William III, who have potential for growth and improvement. Along with players like Matise Thybulle, the Blazers have a solid balance of defensive prowess and shooting ability. With such a talented roster, Portland has positioned themselves to compete and establish a strong foundation for the future.
Scoot Henderson will need to mature quickly and showcase his abilities in order to maintain Portland’s success. The team must also be cautious not to let him slip away, as they did with Damian Lillard.
