Singer Taylor Swift contributes to increased revenue for NFL; she attends her second Kansas City Chiefs’ football game.


On Sunday evening, popular musician Taylor Swift visited New Jersey to see Travis Kelce and his Kansas City Chiefs play against the New York Jets. Reports of a potential relationship between the two have caused a significant increase in ticket sales and television viewership for the National Football League (NFL).

NBC’s broadcast captured footage of Ms. Swift seated in a high-end suite with a group of other well-known figures, such as Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and Blake Lively. When the Chiefs scored their initial touchdown, with running back Isaiah Pacheco making the play instead of Mr. Kelce, Ms. Swift could be seen enthusiastically celebrating in her luxury box.

Last week, she wore a Chiefs jacket with red and white colors to watch Mr. Kelce’s team win against the Chicago Bears in Missouri. However, this week, Ms. Swift, who resides in New York City, opted for a black top and leather jacket while attending the game at the Jets’ home stadium, which is known for its intense atmosphere.

Ms. Swift’s presence, in addition to sparking more speculation about her relationship with the Chiefs’ standout tight end, is certain to provide yet another promotional boon for the NFL.

According to StubHub, the sales of Jets tickets for their upcoming game against the Chiefs skyrocketed following Ms. Swift’s appearance at the Chiefs’ previous game. In just one day, the sales surpassed the previous record for this season, more than doubling it. StubHub also reported that Sunday’s game was the second-highest selling game of the NFL season, second only to the season opener.

The most affordable nosebleed tickets for the game on Sunday in East Rutherford, New Jersey were priced at $81 during the afternoon of Sunday. However, resale tickets for the lower level were selling for nearly $9,000.

At 33 years old, Ms. Swift has successfully filled up football stadiums all over the US during the recent months of her record-breaking Eras Tour. This includes her performances at MetLife Stadium, where all three of her shows in May were sold out and drew in a crowd of over 200,000 fans. Last week, she caused a stir among her devoted “Swifties” when she showed up unexpectedly in Mr. Kelce’s suite at the Chiefs’ home game in Kansas City.

Promotional commercials for the upcoming Eras concert movie, premiering in cinemas this month, aired on NBC prior to the game broadcast. Betting websites featured various bets related to Taylor Swift before the start of the game; FanDuel members could place bets against Mr. Kelce scoring a touchdown, with a bet name of “FriENDZONE.”

Before Sunday’s match, the Sunday Night Football show on NBC shared a promotional clip featuring Taylor Swift’s song “Welcome to New York” as the soundtrack and the message, “Taylor Made for Sunday Night.”

When Swift showed up at the Chiefs’ game on Sept. 24, viewership among women ages 18-49 — Ms. Swift’s prime fan demographic — spiked 63% week-over-week.

They have been discreet about their relationship status. This week, Mr. Kelce briefly mentioned Ms. Swift on his podcast with his brother Jason, who is a player for the Philadelphia Eagles. Jason jokingly asked, “How does it feel to have Taylor Swift finally recognize you?”

Mr. Kelce gave a special mention to Taylor for attending and watching me perform on stage. He complimented her appearance as “amazing” and referred to her energy during the game and the reaction of Chiefs fans to her presence as “hysterical.”
